The Mercator projection has been favouring and underpinning a Eurocentric viewpoint since 1500. It was still being used as a basis for world maps in geography text books in the 1960’s and its presence can still be found today.
Made in response to the rise of partisan politics, in particular Brexit, this piece divides the globe equally and allows any section to be placed at the centre.
*’Our Carbon’ is a carbon neutral material developed from waste and diverted from landfill.
Created especially for this project, the digital map HOME is a companion piece that is an interactive world map, allowing viewers anywhere in the world to place their home at the centre of the world map.
